My first sketches

While observing one night, I decided to sketch the objects that I have selected for the night. Its a fun and fulfilling way to record and file my observations (for me). Its hard estimating the magnitudes and distances between stars and how to put them on paper altogether. But I think I did a good job for my first time ^_^

Here's a sketch of the famous Orion Nebula

Here's a sketch of sun spots via solar projection method. This time, I used my custom made sketching template.

  1. These sketches are for Sir Alex Lacson who have been very supportive in my personal exploration of the cosmos. He taught me how to appreciate and maximize my humble equipment so that I can have satisfaction in this hobby. Getting bigger telescopes is useless if you don't know how to operate and appreciate humble equipment like my achromatic equatorial mounted refractor. For Filipinos out there who might be interested in buying telescopes, you can check Mr. Lacson's advertisement page here:

His products are real bargains. In my opinion, owning simple equipment is a crucial step in exploring the vastness of space. I commend him for bringing in good equipment. Hopefully, this may be a way for amateur astronomy to flourish in the Philippines.

  2. Marvin,

The way you were referring to me it is s if -you were like glorifying Christ, when he's up on the cross and suffering... lol...
Move on now on your own, you have done exceptionally well! But thanks anyway for the compliment. Once for me was enough.

    Now, on the other note,
    these sketches are actually wonderful.
You have done so much progress in so little time.
And I commend you for your "impromptu stargazing ession". Well done! Well done!
In the near future you might want to consider owning a newtonian or a dob. That would give you more power and rich field in discerning. But take no haze, you would come to that well.

While these sketches are wonderful, I think you might want to consider editing , maybe try to use contrast between your sketches (frame/page) and the blog page. So that the sketches would come out and appear well. I suggest you darken the blog page a bit, so it would give a bit contrast against the sketches, so they would come out/stand well. Is this possible? I am not really a techie guy, but I'm sure you are.
If you can come up with your own salvaged eyepiece - then this would really be easy for you.

This is really progress on your end.
I am happy for you, indeed.
I could not reckon how much would you be able to accomplish more for a year.
Perhaps more than I could ever imagine.
So I wish you all the best in this.

    Regards

  3. Thanks for the wonderful comment sir alex! You deserve the compliment.

Yes, I'll try to figure out something to enhance the contrast between the blog page and the sketches. Thanks for your input.

I do hope I can get bigger aperture in the near future. But for now, I think I still have a lot to explore with my 60mm refractor.

Thanks for continuously visiting my blog. I hope I can put up more articles to share with everyone.

    With much appreciation,

    Marvin
